Carol Monaghan MP: UK Government delays and indecision has contributed to BAE job losses

The SNP’s Westminster Armed Forces and Veterans Spokesperson has said the UK Government’s ‘dithering, delays and indecision’ has contributed to the 2,000 job losses announced by BAE Systems across the UK .

During an Urgent Question in the House of Commons, Carol Monaghan MP said that the government’s stop-start defence procurement undermines the UK defence industry and UK defence as a whole.

The defence contractor announced the job losses on Tuesday (10th October). It has since emerged that this will include up to 15 jobs in at the site at Hillend near Dalgety Bay, Fife.

The SNP’s Defence Spokesperson, Stewart McDonald MP, is currently asking BAE Systems for clarity about how these cuts will hit the Eurofighter Typhoon project as well as for clarity on any further threats to BAE’s Scottish workforce.
